Triple Strand Editing and Media, LLC, was born from an unexpected ending. After a seven-year career as an academic and multimedia editor, I was caught in the net of an extensive series of corporate layoffs. Being let go from a “job” is bad enough, but being told you’re no longer needed for a “mission” that you love adds a layer of grief that’s completely different. For me, academic and multimedia editing truly embodied the concept of ikigai: the four-way intersection of what you’re good at, what you love to do, what the world needs, and what you can earn money by doing. I couldn’t let that sense of meaning escape—it had taken far too much time and effort to acquire.

In 2011, I walked away from an eleven-year systems/electrical engineering career in the shipbuilding industry (an ending that was planned for and expected), switching gears to return to college for a biomedical science education. Through a series of coincidences that really weren’t coincidences, my path was directed to the Basic Medical Sciences Ph.D. program at the University of South Alabama. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the program, received an incredible interdisciplinary education (while specializing in microbiology and immunology), and successfully defended my dissertation in December of 2016.

Halfway into a one-year postdoctoral fellowship in gynecological oncology at the University of South Alabama’s Mitchell Cancer Institute, I began a relationship with American Journal Experts (AJE) as a contract Academic Editor. Instantly, I felt like I’d arrived “home”—I can actually get paid to edit manuscripts? That elusive fourth condition of ikigai is satisfied? After three months of editing as a contractor, I was offered the opportunity to join AJE as a full-fledged employee. Needless to say, I jumped at the chance, thus embarking on the professional beginning that I’d hoped would never end.

But it did end, and you know what that means—another beginning! After careful deliberation and much prayer, I started Triple Strand Editing and Media, LLC, in 2025. Through this company, I’m pleased to offer editing and explainer video creation services that help my clients communicate their ideas effectively. More importantly, I strive to build lasting relationships with my clients, earning trust by providing high-quality services at a reasonable price. And there’s good news for those who can’t have or don’t want artificial intelligence (AI) tools or bots working on their projects—I do not use AI to perform or assist with any of my services.
