Editing Services

Editing Services

We offer three flagship editing services to help you strengthen your academic, business, and personal documents.
Basic Editing
What it's best for...
Documents needing only a final sentence-level check of grammar and mechanics.

Basic Editing can help improve documents such as academic research manuscripts, grant/marketing proposals, other professional/technical documents or reports, personal statements, emails, website copy, and real estate listings.
Enhanced Editing
What it's best for...
Documents needing a more in-depth examination than Basic Editing offers.

Enhanced Editing focuses on achieving accuracy, clarity, and consistency throughout the document as a whole.

Enhanced Editing can help improve documents such as academic research manuscripts, theses/dissertations, grant/marketing proposals, other professional/technical documents, and personal statements.
Abstract Word Count Reduction
What it's best for...
Academic research manuscripts and grant proposals.

Got a manuscript or grant proposal with an abstract word count limit that you just can’t seem to meet? We'd love to slice and dice it.

We’ll help you reduce wordiness by making Enhanced Editing-style edits directly in the text, and we’ll leave comments offering suggestions for removing content to cut your abstract down to size.

Basic Editing

Pricing starts at $40
per 1000 words

What it includes...

  • Careful examination of each sentence of your document on its own
  • Minor edits to ensure that the meaning of each sentence is clear and that the terminology used is consistent with the conventions of your field
  • Correction of grammatical errors such as errors in verb tense, subject-verb agreement, pronoun usage and agreement, and preposition usage
  • Correction of errors in spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and spacing

Enhanced Editing

Pricing starts at $60
per 1000 words

What it includes...

  • Correction of errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and spacing (as included with Basic Editing)
  • Maintenance of a consistent tone and writing style throughout your document while retaining your individual style and voice
  • Heavy emphasis on improving the readability, phrasing, and clarity of your document as a whole
  • Cleanup of phrasing to eliminate awkwardness, excessive wordiness, and errors in terminology/word choice
  • Reworking of complete sentences if needed to ensure clear meaning and grammatical correctness
  • Edits to ensure a smooth transition between each sentence and the next (for example, addition of transition words or combination/separation of sentences)
  • Edits to ensure consistent use of abbreviations/acronyms and other conventions throughout your document

Abstract Word Count Reduction

As a stand-alone: $40
As an add-on: $25

What it includes...

  • Enhanced Editing-level edits to trim your abstract by removing unnecessary words, increasing conciseness without changing your meaning or removing content
  • Comments with suggestions for removing content that's not needed in your abstract
  • Typical reduction of 10-15% of the original word count                          (While we can’t guarantee complete success in meeting your word count limit, reductions of this size are typically achievable)
  • Available as a stand-alone service or as an add-on to either the Basic Editing or Enhanced Editing service

Other things to keep in mind...

  • Our editing services do not include document or citation formatting. If you're interested in either of these services, please contact us to discuss your needs.
  • We work with Microsoft Word (.doc, .docx), Microsoft Excel (.xls, .xlsx), and Microsoft PowerPoint (.ppt, .pptx) files.  Documents containing >500 words must be provided as .doc or .docx files.                    Edits in .doc and .docx files will be tracked with the Track Changes feature built into Microsoft Word.  PowerPoint (.ppt, .pptx) and Excel (.xls, .xlsx) files containing <500 words of text can be edited, but edits cannot be tracked.
  • We don’t want to veer into authorship territory, so we don’t make changes that would involve adding substantive content to (or removing substantive content from) your document; intentionally altering your intended meaning; reordering individual sentences or whole paragraphs within your document; or editing, rearranging, or repositioning images.                                                                                                     *If you’ve purchased Enhanced Editing and we see opportunities where these types of edits might improve your document, we'll simply leave comments in your document with our recommended changes. You’ll be responsible for implementing these changes yourself.
  • A special note about academic manuscript editing:  Because the academic manuscript publication process typically includes copyediting and proofreading by staff editors affiliated with the target journal, we don't edit academic manuscripts in accordance with a specific style (e.g., Chicago Manual of Style or American Psychological Association (APA) Style). Instead, we adopt a “house style” that aligns the manuscript text with conventions widely used in academic writing.
